Records Bureau
The City of Wayne Police Department's Records Bureau is staffed by three clerks who are responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information pertaining to the police department. Their duties include processing all police reports, data entry, maintaining fingerprint records, freedom of information requests, local record checks, and gun registration. The Records Bureau can be contacted by calling the police department's main telephone number at 734-721-1414 during their listed business hours.
All fees must be paid in cash only. No credit cards or checks are accepted.

Accident Reports | $18 per report | Accident reports are available online by visiting the CLEMIS website. If you do not have internet access, accident reports are available at the Records Bureau. |
Record Check | $5 per record check | Record checks are available to Wayne residents only. This is a local background check only, not complete criminal history. |
Fingerprints | N/A | If you need to be fingerprinted for employment purposes, contact Michigan Works toll-free at 866-226-2952. The new Michigan Works facility is located at 35731 West Michigan Avenue Wayne, MI. |
Freedom of Information Requests | Costs apply. | Forms are available at the records window during business hours and also online |
Discovery Requests | Additional cost for video and photographs | Attorneys must complete the discovery form and submit it to the Records Bureau. Discovery requests take ten to fifteen business days to process. |
Purchase Permits for Handguns | No Cost | Purchase permits for handguns are available to Wayne residents with proper identification. Applications must be filled out at the Records Bureau to begin the process. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. |
